Cleaning Your Zebra QL Series Printer

Routinely cleaning and maintaining your Zebra QL Series printer will help extend its usefulness and will help improve your team efficiency when performing their day to day activities. The following is a general guideline on how to clean and maintain your printer.

QL220/QL320/QL420 Cleaning

Area Method Interval
Printhead Use a printer cleaning pen or 70% isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab to clean printhead elements from end to end (the print head elements are located in the thin grey line on the printhead After every five rolls of media (more often if needed). Linerless media requires more frequent cleaning
Platen Roller Rotate the platen roller and clean it thoroughly with a cleaning pen or 70% isopropyl and a cotton swab  After every five rolls of media (more often if needed). Linerless media requires more frequent cleaning
Platen Roller Units with linerless platens: Rotate platen and clean bearing points only. Avoid use of alcohol on the surface of linerless platens After every five rolls of media (more often if needed). Linerless media requires more frequent cleaning
 Peel Bar Clean thoroughly with a cleaning pen or 70° isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab As needed
 Scraper, Linerless units only Clean thoroughly with a cleaning pen or 70° isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab After every five rolls of media (more often, if needed)
 Tear Bar Clean thoroughly with a cleaning pen or 70° isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab As needed
 Exterior  Water dampened cloth As needed
 Interior  Brush/air blow. Ensure the Bar Sensor Gap and Label Present Sensor windows are free of dust As needed
 Interior  Units with Linerless platens: Clean inside surfaces of edge guides and media rollers with the cleaning pen or 70° isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab After every five rolls of media (more often, if needed)
