How to Perform a Warm or Cold Boot an MC92N0 Scanner

To reset a Zebra, Symbol or Motorola MC9200 to factory default, you need to perform a warm boot and/or a cold boot function. Here’s how.

  1. A warm boot restarts the Motorola MC92N0 by closing all running programs. You can warm boot the mobile computer by holding down the power button for five seconds.
  2. A cold boot resets the MC92N0, but erases all records and entries saved to the RAM. All formats, preferences, and other settings are returned to factory default settings. Step by step instructions below.

Perform a warm boot first. This restarts the Motorola MC92N0 and saves all stored records and entries. If the MC92N0 still does not respond, then you should perform a cold boot. As noted, a cold boot will erase and reset the device to default settings. To retain essential data and files, back up on flash storage before the cold boot.

The process will vary depending on if you have Windows CE or Windows Embedded running on your MC92N0. We’ve included instructions for both. Should you need a second reference, download the MC9200 user manual. This manual applies to the same Symbol, Motorola, and Zebra scanners, regardless of the brand on the device.

A cold boot restarts the MC9200 series scanner and erases all user stored records and entries that are not saved in flash memory (Application and Platform folders) or a memory card.

Caution: do not perform a cold boot unless a warm boot does not solve the problem.

  1. Press the red Power button. The PowerKey Action window appears.
  2. Tap Safe Battery Swap.
  3. Press the primary battery release to partially eject the battery from the MC92N0.
  4. While the battery is partially released, simultaneously press and release the handle trigger and the Power button.
  5. Push the battery to fully re-insert it in the MC92N0. One audible click can be heard as the battery is fully inserted.
  6. If done correctly, the MC92N0 reboots.
  7. Calibrate the screen and you’re back to factory defaults.
